This state-level examination is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for appointment as Assistant Professors in colleges and universities within the jurisdiction of the member states of the SLET Commission. The exam is similar to the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC.

Eligibility Criteria for SET 2026
Age Limit
There is no upper age limit to appear in the SET examination.
Educational Qualification
- Candidates must have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in a Master’s degree or equivalent examination from a UGC-recognized university/institution for General/Unreserved/General-EWS categories.
- SC/ST/PWD/OBC-NCL candidates must have secured at least 50% marks in a Master’s degree or equivalent examination.
- Candidates awaiting final year results or whose qualifying examinations are delayed may also apply.
