Applications are invited from eligible practicing Advocates for appointment to 11 vacant posts in Grade-I of Assam Judicial Service under the Gauhati High Court, Guwahati. The official notification was released on 20th August 2025 and online applications will be accepted from 27th August 2025 to 14th September 2025 (up to 5:00 PM). Selected candidates will receive a pay scale of ₹1,44,840 – ₹1,94,660 per month along with other admissible allowances as per the rules.

Eligibility Criteria


  • Nationality: Indian citizen (Articles 5 & 6, Constitution of India).
  • Education: Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized University.
  • Experience: Practicing Advocate in civil & criminal courts with 7 years continuous practice as on last date of application. Upload certificate of continuous practice from competent authority.
  • Practice at Appointment: Must be a practicing advocate at the time of appointment (as per Dheeraj Mor v. High Court of Delhi, (2020) 7 SCC 401).

Selection Process


  1. Preliminary Examination (OMR | 100 Marks | 2 Hrs): Minimum 60% required. Shortlisting ratio 1:10.
  2. Main Written Examination (Descriptive | 4 Papers):
    • Paper I (100): GK, English, Aptitude, Legal essay, IT
    • Paper II (100): TPA, CPC, CrPC/BNSS, IPC/BNS, Evidence Act/BSA, Limitation
    • Paper III (100): Judgment writing, Jurisprudence, Constitution
    • Paper IV (50): Assamese language (qualifying; marks not counted in aggregate)

    Eligibility for Viva-Voce: ≥ 60% aggregate in Mains with at least 45% in Papers I–III and 35% in Paper IV.

  3. Interview / Viva-Voce (50 Marks): Ratio 1:3. Minimum 60% required.
  4. Final Merit: Mains + Viva-Voce marks.

Prelims (100): GK, Aptitude, English, Constitution, CPC, CrPC/BNSS, IPC/BNS, Evidence Act/BSA, TPA, Contract, Specific Relief, Family Law, Labour Law, Motor Vehicles, Land Acquisition, Arbitration & Conciliation, Trust, Registration, Court Fees + Assamese (10).

Mains: As per four papers above; candidates expected to refer to relevant decisions of Supreme Court/High Courts in Papers II & III.

  2. Register with active Email ID & Mobile Number (keep noted the Registration Code).
  3. Fill application form carefully and upload:
    • Age proof (Class X Admit Card / Birth Certificate)
    • Law Degree Certificate
    • Certificate of 7 years continuous practice
    • Caste Certificate (SC/ST, if applicable)
    • Disability Certificate (PwBD- Locomotor only)
  4. Pay application fee within due date and submit the form.
  5. Keep print/download of submitted form and payment receipt.

Admit Cards, Roll Nos., and updates will be published on the High Court website. No TA/DA for tests/interview.
